OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW!

A phrase we all know, mostly people would use it to get new products, assets, "boyfriends" or "girlfriends" et al, today I use it for our governments in the African continent. Have you lately seen our parliament houses? Wow! These houses really look like an old age home or some retirement village. Oh where is 'wakanda'? I sometimes miss the land of "Wakanda" where age, race, language and other aspects do not determine your position in the land but, loyalty to the land. Anyway this is not some review for a movie, I am just concerned by how things happen in the continent of Africa, young people are neglected and not taken into consideration concerning leadership roles in governments, and this I believe I know why. It all starts at home, neighborhood, community, district, province or county then the country, if at home they can't trust you with some 'serious' responsibilities, how will your community entrust you with community responsi...

HAPPY MANDELA DAY!

On Wednesday, July 18, 2018 the whole world, I mean all over planet Earth! Celebrations were held to commemorate the life of former South African president, the late Nelson Mandela, who was the country's first democratically elected president. He spent 67 years of his life in community service, so every year on his birthdate day people are urged to spend at least 67 minutes doing something good for their communities. Indeed a lot of good things are done on this one day, things that you'd wish would be done every day, or at least every week or month of the year, many people's lives would far more better than they are now. Well I don't complain to anything, I was watching a documentary last night about "struggle heroes", people who made a great impact in the liberation of the Republic of South Africa from unfair and unlawful treatment of mankind determined by the color of their skin or background. They spoke about Robert Sobukwe, the facts which were shared ab...

UNSAFE NOW THAN EVER

There was a time where people felt unsafe to live in the apartheid Republic of South Africa, because the hatred of one to another could be seen, felt well, even tasted. "Whites" knew their place, so did "Blacks", Indians, "Colored", Asians and other population groups, all knew their exact place among one another. Something happened, something that even the Democratic Republic of South Africa fails to resolve. GREED! Greed was the driving force to many wars that took place in the land of South Africa. Europeans against the British. We also saw the rise of a group of people who were later to dominate the country of South Africa and even Snatch it away from colonizers, making it an independent state in 1930's or 40's , the Afrikaans. Yes, many are already pointing their knives and guns at me for saying that the Afrikaans cut colonization and are the ones who made the country independent back in the 1940's, hear me well, they made South Africa a...

UPROOT IT!

What do you do when a tree, or any other plant is planted in the wrong place? Do you lodge a complaint to the soils? Do you cut its branches? What do you do? Of course someone took the title of this post as their answer, and yes, it is correct! If planted on the wrong site, uproot it! I write concerning our everyday lives, people always find themselves in awkward situations and places, uncomfortable as it is, they complain about the situation instead of finding the problem and uprooting it. At least you are not a tree, be decent enough to move when you are not well with where you are. South Africa as a country has the same problem. Many trees have been planted either by the natives of the land or descendants of the men who stopped by and made the land home away from home as they were moving away from conflicts at home or simply sent by authorities to colonize the land to expand territories and or kingdoms, or just to satisfy their greediness. South Africa today is a...

GONE ONLINE

want a man? Go online. Want to make groceries? Go online, Want to buy clothes? Go online. Want lunch delivered to you or workplace? Go online. Want a child? Go online. So almost everything if not completely everything you want, you go online. We live in a digital era, era of online life, parents and children communicate online even if they are in the same house, same room, on the same dinner table, want to be passed salt? Go online and ask the one closer to the salt to pass you the salt. Relationships have grown cold, a husband speaks with the wife online even when they are in the same bedroom, this opens up a space for him to chat with someone else who is online dividing his attention to the wife and vice versa. Houses have turned into mortuaries, complete silence even with the presence of 1000 people, because everyone is online. Parties or social gatherings also have turned silent, because while we wait for others, we pass time being online. We are no longer physically social, n...
